They look pretty tasty. What did you grow them in?

We grew them in old feed sacks in the summer, cut the halums off once they were done and moved the sacks into the shed. Then tipped them out yesterday.

Did you water them at all or just leave them?

I had the wrong end of the stick.. thought you'ld cleverly grown new spuds for xmas in a greenhouse/tunnel..

I've been hit by blight every year so have to pull them early and store dry in sacks. But did have huge parsnips, carrots, onions, leeks etc fresh from the garden.. and still there..

No - I'm not that clever when it comes to growing veg!! I think the "sow spuds now for Christmas" thing in July is just a marketing ploy to extend the seed potato buying season. I am not sure I have heard of anybody being very successful at it.

The polytunnel gets cleared out at the end of October and lies fallow all winter with just a layer of manure to keep it company. After all the fuss in the summer months it's nice to have a break!….. damned thing is sooooo demanding!! next year I am going to automate the watering. The I can spend time in there doing stuff rather than just standing about with a hose!

Yup. My big greenhouse gets cleared out end of tomatoes and then washed out with jeyes and left. Except this year it had  aload of weeds that had nasty uderground runners so it got glyphosated and I'm stilll waiting for every weed to die right off with their winter slow growth.

I gave up wth direct hosepipe 'cos the pressure from nearest tap too low. I use a couple of waterbutts and dip watering cans in from the top.
