Lamb Results
« on: September 17, 2014, 06:58:27 pm »
Bit new on the sending to abattoir bit and got our results back, all hogget, 1 x castlemilk ram, 1 x castlemilk wethers, 1 x castlemilk cross shetland and 1 x Shetland rigg.

Results 20.80 kg O3H, 20.00kg O3H, 17.30kg O3L and 16.20 O3L - so I'm thinking I know they won't do great on confirmation and if They got 3 2 one way and 2 the other I guess we did ok.

Anyone with shetlands/ Castlemilks put me right - just trying to learn - thank you

Got some of ours back this afternoon but our butcher does not give us the grades ??? (must check up on that).
All I can say is that our Shetland hoggets came back between 18kg and 21kg so about the same as yours ;D .  The lambs (born April) were between 16kg and 18kg.

There was a lot of difference in the fat content between the lambs and hoggets, and the GFD hoggets had more fat than the Shetlands.  It was particularly noticeable on the chops.

Just waiting for the feedback from our friends now :fc:

No, our abbatoir/butcher is fairly basic.  Great with the animals though and that is most important to me, and helpful to newbie smallholders ;D
