broken horns

I have a 15 year old Barbados wether who broke off one horn Memorial Weekend---the bad kind with the "hole" into his "brain"  Have kept a gauze patch over it held on with slathers of Swat ointment to keep flies out.  Change it periodically, but "hole" is still raw and wet.  This am found him down again and other horn knocked off, this time leaving an external "knob" -little blood this time- which I covered with Swat ointment.
Back to back business trips have left little time to coordinate a vet visit--Anything either the vet or I can do for the horn that broke off two months ago leaving the gaping hole?
