Computer help please!
« on: July 06, 2014, 08:01:12 am »
Got a new hp computer recently, windows 8 and McAfee Security etc.  Since the outset it has been annoyingly pop-up city (driving  me MAD!) and more importantly I am getting far too many with sexual content in it - so much so I was finding this very offensive - I signed on again as a child so I could get protection from the 'family security' I've put on for the kids - next time I went on here I got 2 very offensive ads about women - not pop ups but full screen versions once I'd X clicked off the screen I was on.

I've done some security checks in the Tools / Security thing and clicked for High level etc, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference.  I spend most of my time clicking off adverts rather than reading something I've googled.  It's driving me really mad.  Anyone any thoughts?

Sounds like your system has a virus thats loaded when you start up your computer.
I can only pass on information from another forum I use. Their standard recommendation is to download malwarebytes trial and use that to clear your computer.  It can be used on a 30 day trial if you dont plan to buy it.

From the feed back they get it seems to clear up many of the problems..
If you cant beat 'em then at least bugger 'em about a bit.

Have you got the pop-up blocker switched on?  On Windows 7 it's a tick box on the Privacy Page under Tools => Internet options

Agreed with above but also download adblocker - it's free.

I've had similar and Malwarebytes got rid of it for me. I'll try adblocker as well. Get far too many ads.
