GLOBAL WARNING ?
« on: October 25, 2009, 11:07:51 pm »
Do you believe in Global Warming - or is it another conspiracy
for making money for governments???

http://uk.messages.news.yahoo.com/Climate/threadview?m=tm&bn=UKN-CLI-Global+Warming&tid=7723&mid=7723&tof=7&frt=2

Just think - re this ice cap melting and floods that they talk about, water rising etc.

If you put ice in a drink, and the ice melts, it takes up the same space in the glass as when it was solid - water displacement science etc.  So why would the seas rise???

It all sounds a bit iffy if you read up on it - could be another way for us to have to pay green taxes and spend money doing the job that the government should be doing anyway to clean the planet.  What are your views??

erm ....dunno...but Antarctica is about 10% of the worlds land mass and is covered by 90% of the worlds ice and contains about 70% of the worlds fresh water. The arctic is ice floating on water .
Water expansion as it warms, is one of the major contributors to sea level rise , but so too would  the Antarctic ice if it melted . The higher parts of it are some 10,000ft above sea level , with a highest peak of 16,000ft about 3 miles ....if it all melts it has to go somewhere !!!
Also all that fresh water would create a huge change in the salinity of the sea ,which some experts say many sea creatures could not cope with , and they would die out. IT would also change the way the sea currents act ,  El Nino for example , which in turn could affect the way the jet stream behaves and therefore change many countries climates to a huge degree .
I think global warming caused by man does exist, but that the earth also creates changes to it's own climate too . How much of one and how much of the other is up for debate ? but governments will jump on any band wagon where they can make us pay more taxes . No doubt NI contributions will have to rise by huge amounts soon to pay for Tamiflu and the swine flu vaccine ?  OOOPs , shouldn't have said that ... they may be reading this !!!!

cheers

Global warming is a fact!
whether or not we contribute is open to debate, the gulf stream is already changing direction, this could in theory cause another ice age,
the world will put whatever we do to rights, nature has a way of correcting errors, and the mass consumption of a species (MAN) can not continue.
the choice will be will nature put an end to it or will man bring about his own distrution 1st???
Whatever we can not continue to grow in numbers and consume everything in sight, soon nothing will be left to consume, then what?
I do rather like that bit in the film MATRIX were man is compaired to a virus.

big question will the host, (earth) destry man or will man destroy the host?????

I had got a blue peter science book from the library to teach the kids about stuff and there was an experiment in there to show the difference between sea ice melting and polar ice melting - can't remember all the ins and outs now, but the polar ice melt did cause a rise in the water level. Might try and get the book out again & explain it better !
I'm just worried about all the polar bears  :'( Cos like me - they're all left handed  ;)
Don't know where I got that info, but I think it's true  ;)
