Am I mad??
« on: May 31, 2014, 07:41:55 pm »
So I got a call from a lady I bought some sheep off in jan. She said she has some retired and semi retired Shetland ewes that she needs to move on as she is cutting down On numbers.

Went to see them today and oh I just feel in love! Not exactly sure how many I'm picking up as most of them have lambs at foot. And the best part is she is giving them to me and I'm paying a small amount for the lambs. So it saves me topping my extra grass :D

They all have sweet names but i Will get you all pictures!!

There is only one who is 'retired' she slipped her lamb, the rest are fit to breed.

I didn't quite explain but I need them for some conservation grazing so it doesn't matter if they are or not bred from!

After your last CLA scare have you decided to pre-test any bought in stock for nastys?

Well if I was you I would have those sheep as well. It is once in a lifetime and you shouldn't miss the oppertunity when it knocks. :farmer:

They are going straight into isolation to be monitored. They won't be in contact with the other sheep and the others will never graze where these are going. Will have them tested anyway

I have a lot of what I call "sad cases" and old guys on our place......and to be honest I would probably have done the same at one time!!  But, I have seriously got to cut down, so have got stricter with myself.  But, your Shetlands can be bred from, so that's good!!
