As the title suggests, does anyone have any experience of dealing with heel/sole cracks or splits in pigs?

I.e a fissure of lesion developing where the soft sole of the foot meets the hard nail part of the foot.

generally not a lot you can do, we have used horse 'hoof & heel' ointment which will soften and seal it but long term its a bugger. I'd be interested if anyone else has had any successful remedies for this.

Not my sow luckily. But yes, it looked like it wasn't going to come good in my opinion.

The sheer weight of the pig makes it hard for this sort of problem to heal.

Our boar developed a crack/split on the soft pad of his trotter, keeping him in, on dry straw for a week, washing the foot and spraying it with antibiotic spray worked wonders and he was good as new afterwards.
Pigs are normally quite quick to heal providing you give them the right help and conditions to do so

My sow had a hard lump on her sole presumably a bit like a callous. Not sure how she got it and her feet were prone to cracking although it seemed to grow out.  She went quite lame especially when it was dry and ground hard.  I just rubbed her tummy so she lay down then pared it with a hoof knife. She was fit as a flea after
