If anyone is able to re-home a lovely black lurcher (saluki x) in or near Wiltshire, there is a five year old bitch which the owner is wanting to destroy. It was rescued 3 years ago from Scotland and the woman kept a pup from the litter but they started hunting together and about 10 days ago she killed a cat.


I will post a photo if it ever loads onto my iPad. Seems nice natured and good with children and other dogs. The cat thing is a hazard of having lurchers and this one hasn't really had much training. PM me if interested

So the woman rescued a lurcher bitch? Then bred it (bringing another slightly pointless litter of pups into the world) ? Didn't do much training with the dog? And now wants it pts because it killed a cat.

Some folk need to take a moment and look at themselves.

I hope it finds a good home. If you get real stuck, I know somewhere else you could post about it where you may well get a response, if a working home isn't a problem?

I think it might have been pregnant when she had it.  She's fairly wealthy and I think had a lot of ground initially but has since moved. We are making assumptions as to why she wants rid but she should have thought about it as she had a lurcher years ago.


I might yet take it but I have 4 dogs and already have an issue with my two male dogs so don't really want any more disturbances in the house. Would happily swap a male spaniel for it! That would solve both our problems!

I currently have a friend with a cat who's had to have half of her tail amputated, and who held her next door neighbour's cat as it died, after a greyhound moved in up the road.  The owner doesn't seem to think there is any problem with her dog chasing and injuring / killing cats on the road and in the cats' own gardens.

So I am struggling with the rehoming of a dog that's learned to kill a cat, unless there is some proper and very robust vetting of the prospective new home and owner.

Yes, unfortunately I don't know the circumstances and know from other situations that cats can taunt a dog and eventually will meet with a sticky end.


I have had lurchers before and cats with no problem but she would sometimes chase another cat if I wasn't paying attention. It is possible to stop the behaviour or at least keep on top of it but you are right it needs an experienced person who understands a lurchers mentality.  I could have done with her tonight as the fox came and killed one of my young wellsummer hens. Not sure if the gamekeeper has really killed it but if not she will be back for the rest.
