Learning Chinese - The New first language

Cannot find the original thread - but remember stating that we will probably have to learn
Chinese soon, as there will be more of them than English speaking folk, and it will be the first
language of the planet.

Though if I read it correctly... its more for children of Chinese parentage/ancestory to learn Mandarin?
My chinese is limited to Taoist terms and Tai Chi Qi kung..
