Lots of new kids
« on: April 25, 2014, 03:23:45 pm »
Wytsend Darren our AN had a busy few days last Autumn!!

Tuesday lunchtime, Poppy my large white Sanaan x BA had twins - a white girl and a tri coloured boy.......exactly the colours I imagined, got quite long ears, but not as long as the Nubians.

Tuesday teatime, Wytsend Cherry AN had twin boys.

Yesterday teatime I arrived to find Wytsend Carina had a little girl (tiny!.  Could not find any afterbirth, but she was in the shelter with the other goats, and Molly the sanaan is very good at drying other peoples kids and eating afterbirths, so assumed she had done it this time.  Checked Carina a few times, made sure the little one had a drink, and left at just before 10pm, satisfied that Carina and kid were happy.

Got there this morning, opened the door, and was horrified to see a large dead kid.....and in the corner with the tiny kid, was the exact same, another tiny female looking at me.

As I said, no sign of any more kids, and Carina certainly was not big - did not dream there were triplets.  Also she has not been well lately, having had injections twice from the vet, so I was pleased she had managed one kid to full term.

Anyway, we have two girls.

Including  the pygmys, we now have 5 boys and 3 girls.

Do have pics, but I always struggle to reduce them sizewise to fit on here.  Will give it a go this evening, when my mobile reception is usually better.

I do find  the Nubians are very sociable goats.  The vet laughs at them, as they all crowd round to see what she is doing.  The only thing I have noticed, is that the kids do seem to take more time to get going than the other breeds.  For example, the ones born to Poppy, who only have an AN father, on the same day, are much more active, same with the pygmy kids, they are up and away from day one!!
