goats wanted
« on: February 04, 2014, 02:26:23 pm »
Having joined the local goat club and gleaned as much information as I can I am now looking for my first two goats. The barn and paddock will be ready from March. I have been advised that I should start with young goats so they can get used to me (and me to them) before we get into kidding, milking etc. I am looking for dairy goats for the house and for cheesemaking. I have a reasonably open mind as to breed and am on the border of Herefordshire and Powys. Will anyone within reasonable distance have any stock to sell this spring?

Thanks

If you join Goaty Friends on Facebook you will get lots of help especially as you've already joined a goat club.  There are 3 golden guernsey girls from a neighbour in cornwall and she could meet half way.

Thanks for the suggestion about goaty friends. I don't have a facebook account - I've always avoided it but hopefully my son can look at that for me.

Thanks as well for the information about the ones in Cornwall - I would prefer to get something nearer if possible.

Hi.   I'm a bit of a way off (Carms/Pembs border) but will be kidding at the end of February.   I keep a small herd of Pedigree Anglo Nubians and depending on 'who has what' I might even have a female for sale with kid/s at foot - but time will tell.    Drop me a PM if of any interest.   There are pics of the goats on our website and on the Fb page.

Rose breeds toggenburgs, 'Seair herd'  she's near Oswestry.  I can give you her number, can't remember her user name on here.

'Plumseverywhere' is Evesham way I think and

'tizaala' is near Llandrindod.

Mine - golden guernsey x saanan -  are in kid to an angora buck so may not be quite right for you,

Preloved is worth looking at and farmingads usually have some advertised.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have a couple to follow up when the weather improves so keeping my fingers crossed that we will get something sorted out. The trouble is when we moved in last summer we promised ourselves that we would sort out livestock this spring and suddenly it's February and we hadn't done anything about it (apart from essential barn repairs etc).

Thanks for the message. Wiltshire is a bit far and wanted dairy rather than meat but it's very useful to get information. Have been in touch with someone not too far away and looking forward to meeting them and their goats when the weather improves.
