Mobile phone - what to do??
« on: November 21, 2013, 01:42:23 pm »
Hi,
OH has just started a new job but has no mobile signal at work. This is a bit of a problem as we run a couple of businesses and he often needs to pick up messages, check emails and make calls during his breaks. For the same reason I wouldn't be keen on changing his number.

He is on O2 and renewed his contract in September so is tied in for 24months.
Vodafone signal is supposed to be the best where he works so changing would be an option but could we transfer the number?

Also O2 is the only network that works well at home so maybe keeping the current contract and getting another one would be an option?

Just wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas? Feeling a bit confused

I don't really have advice but i think you can move your mobile phone no if you go with another provider.
Where we are the signal isn't great with any provider but we have found that vodafone sell a piece of equipment that boosts the signal. I don't think it was overly dear and has worked a treat.

O2 do an app called Tu Go, which works via wireless and let's you receive calls and texts to wireless enabled devices even if signal is poor. That does rely in having access to a wireless network though. Does OH have wireless at work?

I bought a cheap phone from Aldi while Gabi was stuck in Germany, It takes 2 sims - we have 1 Virgin sim and 1 Tesco sim, So it responds to 2 different numbers without being tied down to any one provider. If he gets a cheap Pay as you go phone from Vodafone and get all calls forwarded to it - would that be the answer? :fc:

For what it's worth, my OH moved from Vodafone to Orange and then back to Vodafone keeping the same number all the time, so yes, you should be able to change companies and keep the same number.

Thank you! He doesn't have WiFi at work .....yet - although the boss is planning on getting it sorted so the O2 tu go thing may be an option.
I didn't realise you could have a phone with 2 sims in - forwarding calls from the normal number to the one that works might be an option too - thanks all.
