Hi-line and 404's can you breed from them?
« on: August 05, 2009, 06:48:42 pm »
I was Talking to a neighbour who was saying that she had access to some cockerels and did we want one, Thinking that we could rear some of our own chicks if we did get a cockerel, I mentioned it to my boss. She replied that as our birds were 404's they would not lay fertile eggs

Is this true? I've never heard of this so I mentioned to her I know where I can find out....

well we have a wonderful crop of hi-line cross chucks. not one is the same all diffrent. i would guess that unless they have performed some evil experiment on them that if they lay eggs they are fertile. after all the last thing you want are infertile egg layers.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda thought as much. It may be that my boss was confused with clocking. she did say it was a long time ago when she heard it

i thought one of my hi lines had been munched by a fox but low and behold she marched up the drive today with 4 fluffy yellow chicks.  I didnt think they would even go broody never mind manage to hatch them!!  Had a terrible chicken week so this has made up for it all :)
