Hi,
This year's ram lambs will have to be inspected in autumn by the breed inspectors before they can be registered. For instance, I have 2 ram lambs that I am putting up for inspection, but I will not know if they pass until after inspection, and I do not know when that will be. If they do not make the grade they cannot be registered with the DSBA (Dartmoor Sheep Breeders Association).
There was a breed sale at Exeter on Friday where a lot of registered rams of varying ages were offered for sale. Folk come from all over the country to buy and there was a huge variance in price.
There will be plenty of GFD exhibited at the Dorset County Show (Dorchester) on Friday,Sat., Sun this weekend. It would be a good place to see the breed and speak to several judges/inspectors.
Hope this helps. If you want to take a chance on either of my boys they are looking for good homes, otherwise it will be lamb chops before Xmas.
