Ludlow show/sale yesterday
« on: August 25, 2013, 01:39:27 pm »
I took my 2 ram lambs, one Ryeland and one coloured Ryeland to the sale yesterday. The white sold, a bit below the reserve but ok. The coloured was too much below the price so I brought him back home.
I must say I didn't enjoy the experience although if you wanted to buy it seems people got a good deal.
Now to sort out my options for my coloured ram who is out of good parents and is registered.
1. He goes on his one way journey
2. He goes to a coloured sheep sale at Llandovery at the end of Sept
3. He gets the chop and I keep him as a pet (he is my favourite)
4. I work out which girls he can't be with and then put him with the others and see if anything happens and then sell him next year, having proved himself.
Meanwhile, is he ok on his own, albeit that the girls are in the next field with stock proof fencing in between?

If he is good enough to try and sell, surely he is too good to go for a one way journey? Personally, I would see who he could breed with and try again to sell him next year. Our ram was kept on his own with stock fencing betweenhim and the girls until his sons came along and went with him when they were weaned. Should be ok, just as long as he can see and sniff his girls through the fencing.

I'd say he'll be fine if he can see & hear them - of course that assumes the girls can't wander off out of range.

If he needs a temp home then I have a ram / ram lamb collection here Sally.......... happy to graze him for a bit if it helps.

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Marcus, the girls can't wander out of range so I'm hoping he will be fine.
Linda, thats a great offer. I might take you up on it if he seems unhappy.
thanks
