Yes it was the Ukraine!  It is absolutely brilliant.  But I remembered I bought it from Merry Farm (http://merry-farm.com/products/milk-separators/milk-cream-electric-centrifugal-separator-80-17-html.html) still Ukrainian, but cheaper than their ebay shop.

This is just THE best icecream recipe ever: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/03/butterscotch-ice-cream/  Enjoy!!!!

Cool, great tip.

I meanwhile found this recipe for making goat butter without a separator. It involves a lot of waiting! Does it sound plausible?

You can get the bacteria for making cheese separately and just add it in so you can still use pasteurised milk for it.

Hi Min

The cream does noticabley settle in a day or two (we use mason jars for our milk) but it does get goatier as it sits. So, if you have to wait 5 days for enough cream, you'll have some quite goasty in taste (3/4/5 days old) as well as your fresh.  BUT most importantly after waiting that long I'd rather be making ice cream!!!  :roflanim:

I think I need one of those separators. I really, really need one of those separators. OH says he prefers semi-skimmed milk so it's actually my duty to get one.

Oh, and an ice cream maker.  :innocent:

That recipe is pretty much exactly how we make butter. So, yes I would give it a go.
