RUSTLERS stole 127 standard white pigs from a farm in Norfolk.  Police said the animals were taken from a field between noon on Saturday, June 1, and 7am the following day.
It is thought at least two trailers would have been needed to transport them from the site in the Gayton area.
Anyone with information can call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Not easy to steal a large number of pigs without causing a disturbance. How come nobody noticed they'd gone until 7am the next day? Don't commercial pigs get checked twice a day?

 >:(  This is getting really worrying - pigs were stolen from 2 villages within 5 miles of us last week - we are East Norfolk/North Suffolk border.  The lady who has horses in the field next to our pigs said someone was at our field taking pictures of our pigs the other day - she asked what they were doing but they just walked off and sadly she didn't get a registration number or anything.

I am worried - can only think of 2 reasons why someone would take pics.  One they are planning to steal them or two they don't like them being there and are going to report us to someone.

I don't have any concerns if we were 'reported' as everything is legal and registered and our 2 GOSs have 1/5 of an acre to play in, plus we go twice a day at least.  But if someone plans to steal them there's not a lot we can do really - the gate is securely locked with a padlock but if someone really wants to steal them a professional bolt cropper will sort that out.  I think our biggest security is the location, down a tiny track and next to a bungalow with dogs - and just hope our 2 pigs aren't really worth the bother.

I think, for those that can, installing a descreet (and infra red) camera somewhere would be a good idea.
Like the ones used for wild-life trap photography.

Was reading about a number of bee hives stolen the other day too.

Criminals such as these are loathesome creatures.

I do worry about my goats, even though they are in the back garden and we have noisy dogs.

It does not matter what you do if its not locked away or chained up if somebody want to pinch it they will, we know of a recent crime that needed many hands and a vehicle.

A local farmer had a field that was bounded by a public right of way he had last November planted over a 1000 Christmas trees, where the public footpath dips out of site the bu****s nicked over 500 tress in one night these are young trees at about a foot tall. Now that to me takes the biscuit as there is not much you can do with a eoot high Christmas tree. So they must have been taken in pure spite as they have no market for them locally and at that age they need to be in the ground or kept well watered especially in this weather.

We are reasonably lucky as we are down a lane with only one neighbour and surrounded by fields on all sides and a distance from any road.

But do not despair  as they say on crime watch things are not all that bad.

Is it any wonder folks are leaving the UK in droves. Over here, in the villages, people leave plants in pots outside their houses, some put decorated Xmas trees out in December too. There are huge piles of large logs at the side of the road cut down by the owner that are never touched by anyone. I assume in the large towns that there are criminal elements, French included, but in the villages and countryside, there is still respect for a person's property.
(Except I hasten to add, the ENGLISH car mechanic who did some work on my hubby's car and nicked his TomTom at the same time. Because Allen was hospitalised shortly after, we didn't realise until we went to use it weeks later that it had been half-inched. However, we don't have absolute proof so we cant report him to the gendarmes, but we know it was him.)

That's awful, Mary. Surely he realised he'd be the first suspect?

I know, its sickening MGM. We had to buy another one, and actually the stolen one was less than a year old. We cant do without one here as so many places we visit are in the middle of the countryside where signposts can be few and far between. We got one that wasn't a Tomtom and it was half the price with a higher spec. OH has just got to fathom out how to use it now!!

unbelievable that 127 pigs get carted off and not one person notices. Sounds serious stuff and focus on large scale thefts so I hope that they wont bother you Colliwobbles.
Mary - By chance we find ourselves with the lowest crime rate in France - maybe because everyone is ober a 100 ! ( La Creuse for those who like google).

A neighbouring farmer had 4 x young calves stolen last week from his yard and another farmer had a quad bike stolen the same night.

I used to think my OH was being a bit over the top. Our camera's record all the time and he can check back whenever he wants. Now I am glad we have this.
