Pheasant Eggs in Incubator Still Not Hatched
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:43:15 pm »
My teenage son has 30ish ringneck pheasant eggs in incubator at the moment.
He had researched incubation period and thought they should be hatching after 22-23 days.
We are now on day 25 but still no signs of hatching?!?!
Anyone have any advice?
(His Dad his helped him keep a check on the temperature and humidity levels).

Mine went to 26/27 days.  But I lost most of them.  I didn't know till after wards that they need a higher heat than hens eggs

Many thanks for your comments.
My husband has been very particular about the temperature so I don't think that is the problem.
Its difficult to candle them because most of them have very dark shells and its very hard to see inside.
Humidity is aok too, I think but I would have to check with my husband.
Think we will leave it going a bit longer?!?
One has a tiny crack on it but then there has been no change for a day or two. :-[

I have a brinsea candler which isnt strong enough to penetrate my quail eggs so i take off the rubber ring which the egg sits in and put this on a small strong torch we have (its a surefire) and this works perfectly, can see clearly the chicks inside, might be worth a go.

fingers crossed for your eggs  :fc:

Good news on the pheasant front.  Nine hatchlings this mornings and more with cracks! Success! Hooray!
Just wondering how quickly to offer them chick crumbs? Have read conflicting advice.  Some things say straight away, others say not for 24 hours?!?!?
