Like the other post today, we also have a poorly hen. Our Partridge Wyndotte has always been a loner, and almost mute hen. Today we found her in a nesting box slumped head down, seemingly asleep. She was still there sometime later. When we lifted her out, she cannot stand and appears lopsided.Almost like she has had a stroke, she is about 3 years old, she has never laid daily. She last laid 2 days ago. Anyone have an idea what could be wrong with her please. Any help would be much appreciated.

Could be a number of things, sadly it doesn't sound like much can be done for her.
Make her comfortable, and don't let the other birds pester her.
She probably won't make it through the night.

I hope she'll be ok.
I have a poorly hen at the moment and have spent hours looking online for an answer, but it seems that chickens are hard to diagnose.
I took my last poorly hen to the vets, but they weren't certain either.
Unfortunately it is just a case often of bringing them in and watching then and making them comfortable and trying different treats to eat. Sheep are the same...
Some make it, some don't.
Best of luck though

Thank you both for your replies, unfortunately Ruby did not make it. We checked on her last night but she had passed away. At least she did not linger though. Heaven knows what caused her to die so suddenly. Best of luck to you J with your poorly hen, hope you find an answer.

Sorry to hear that Ruby died xxx
Our hen is still battling on, bought everything I can think of and doing all we can, but I'm quietly pessimistic.
All you can do s your best.
Hope you are ok xxxx

A regular Flubenvet worming programme removes a lot of the variables in illness diagnosis. When they are really ill they may not be able to stand worming, so it's something best kept on top of. We noticed the Wyandottes were very 'tetchy' -noisy when laying and alway squabbling. Spotted a worm in a poo and realised it was 8 months since they were done. A week later and all's quiet. Worm burden has more effect than is immediately obvious.
