Hi everyone!
« on: March 27, 2013, 02:26:30 pm »
Been hanging around here for ages but this is my first post. We've been saving up for somewhere with land for many years. Now our kids are grown and are no longer tied to schools we can finally take the plunge. We sold last year and We have just learned today that we can get a mortgage on our dream place. We are moving from South Yorkshire down to South East Somerset, hopefully in the next two months The property has nearly 34 acres to play with (exciting and just a bit scary). This site is brilliant for advice and support and I anticipate asking lots of questions as we go on.

Hi Four Cats. We have one rather elderly cat and a snake, but I'm sure the animals will rapidly multiply!

How old is your cat?

Wow, a snake? I've always been afraid of them.  :knit:

P.S. on my avatar is my "biggest cat" when he was little (around 2 years ago). Isn't he cute? He's around 13 lbs.

She is 14, gorgeous and a real character. She is usually either following me, watching everything I do or doing the same with my daughter. She is very loud and vocal (she is an oriental) and constantly is looking to play. I think like me she has cabin fever stuck in the rental property. This garden is not a patch on our old one with the field at the bottom and she doesn't particularly like going out here. The weather doesn't help much. Not being able to sow anything yet is making me very impatient to move. The snake is an Arizona King Snake and is red black and cream stripy. The only time it ever bit was when I accidently dropped something on it and so was totally justified!

Hi thanks for the replies. 34 acres is a dream come true although as I have said a bit scary! We are keeping our fingers crossed everything goes ok. Can't wait! We have a list of animals we would like to keep starting with chickens and bees. I would dearly love a couple of Golden Guernseys and we shall be getting a couple of weaners. Your shetland cattle look lovely. We also have been looking at Dexters and various sheep. This would be some time in the future; we have some courses to take first (not to mention saving up again so we can afford to feed and house everything on top of paying an enormous mortgage!). OH will be continuing to work away during the week so I have to be able to cope with the day to day jobs myself - also a bit scary! I am on a get fit campaign to be ready (on a diet and doing quite well but far to go - I have been following a thread on here for inspiration - thank you Jackie2!
