Boer goats and salt licks
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:01:25 pm »
Has anyone with Boers noticed if their Boers dont use the salt licks ?
I spent yesterday stripping the sheds down and giving everything a good scrub, took from 9.30am untill 3pm non stop working  :o
everyone has the red rockies and I noticed yesterday the boers licks are vertualy untouched where as the ones in the dairy goats that went in at the same time are nearly half gone  :-\

My GG's don't use theirs, but the BT's do.... no idea what that is about   ??? . Otherwise all the same food/water/hay & grass.

So there may be breed-specific differences ?

Yes everything else is exactly the same between the 2 breeds here aswell.
Now that you mention it our GG that we had years ago never used to touch her salt lick either  :-\

Funnily enough my boer crosses don't seem to bother with red lick. I keep finding it on the floor as they prefer to scratch giants it rather than lick it! Also didn't touch Scats sheep lick but went a bit mad for the Lifeline bucket which I bought for ewes.
