Foster piglet off her feet.
« on: December 24, 2012, 08:32:12 am »
The surviving foster GOS gilt is not looking good and hoping someone might have some ideas.
Yesterday morning noticed she was limping slightly on one of her front legs, put it down to a knock as they had all been bombing around the day before. As the day went on she was getting up less and less and away from the others. I set up a heat lamp and I've started bottle feeding her. She is big and chunky and looks fine in herself but doesn't get up at all now. When I pick her up she is strong and wiggles and feeds OK. Has anyone any ideas. I am going to take her down the vets in a couple of hours to see what they think. Had to be this time of year when I have a million and one other things to do but that comes with keeping animals.

Metacam - that's my cure all for bumps and limps  (and a bit of reiki doesn't hurt  :innocent:)
It probably is as you say BB - staved it while bombing around.
Pigs eh ?  ::) Never ending source of stress and a drain on your finances - makes you wonder why we bother keeping them eh ?  ;) :roflanim:
Hope she's okay  :fc: let us know what the vet says and hope you have a good christmas  :-*

Thanks Karen. The vet thinks it the front leg and possibly a hurt neck but nothing broken. Hes given her anti biotics and anti inflammatory and I've bought her indoors. The rest of the litter were being a bit rough so that wasn't helping. So added to my to do list is regular feeds and a jab every other day. ::)
Hope everyone has a great Christmas and New year and pleeeeese stop raining. :roflanim:

with a bit of rest & tlc they usually bounce back quite quickly, sounds like as you say over boisterous activity.

She Is much better today running round the kitchen floor while I'm cooking Christmas dinner. Going to try putting her back with the sow tomorrow or Thursday.

Piglet finished her anti biotics on Sunday morning and put her back in with the sow and litter and all seems back to normal. I saw her suckling while the mum was feeding, that was my main concern as we had her lapping from a bowl. Hopefully the rest of her life will be uneventful. :roflanim:

Good stuff BB  Glad to hear she's doing better.
Pigs and uneventful don't exactly go together though, do they ?  ;) :roflanim:

An update on the foster piglet.
She has been doing really well and was slightly bigger than the others but recently she has dropped back. This morning she was looking a bit lethargic but suckling and eating. This evening at feed time I decided to top her up with a bottle which went down very well. Will keep this up for a couple of days and see if she perks up. :fc:

Thank you ladies you are too kind. She is a lovely little thing and it is no trouble really.
