The floods
« on: January 01, 2013, 05:12:01 am »
we braved two 30 hours battles against the rising Eden over xmas. got oorselves on the bbc website and the news. never seen it like that since I came here in 1994. The council gave brilliant support with sand bags ( 3 times ) when our flood damm burst they arrived on the door in 5 mins with a 4 man team and we built the biggest wall of sandbags to replace it..

We had no yard or garden. The whole house was in the flow of the eden.

Our Girls  :&> :&> :&> :&> :&> had to be evacuated to our neighbours, much to the delight of the wee lasses next door.

We had to vacate the ground floor and do a ultra fast flit upstairs with the help of friends and neighbours. ( bless everyone of them for there efforts. )

Our flood gates on the 4 ground floor doors did a wonderfull job.

Even tho the house has been tanked it still got in.... but only about an inch at most.
Not bad concidering the water was 30inches above floor level.

all in all a difficult week but we still wouldnt want to live anywhere else.

be well

Robbie

:fc: for you that the rain stops soon.  Wonderful to hear that your council, neighbours and friends have been so supportive - that must really help you get through such testing times.  Good for you  to be so positive.

That's scary! I'm glad you're all ok, and that everyone was so helpful.

I live on the river Eden too, but in Cumbria  :)

I can't imagine how horrible it must have been for you but at least you got support when you needed it.
I hope things dry out for you soon  :fc:

Im sorry it got so bad, but very pleased it wasnt worse (bad enough tho) but most pleased at the help you got - very good to hear that it was minimised as much as it could be. really feel for anyone in that situation.

Pleased to hear you are all ok and the  :&> s of course. How are they doing? Mine are all fine and I think that out of the 10 we only seem to have 2 boys so that is a bonus as it means that I will be able to keep them all.
Hope you get dried out soon .

Hello hello hello and hello to ewe.....   8 out of 10 are girls.... thats fab! Oooooty is now the biggest, a beefy wee duck, she/he has a quack so i think its a she be we have reservations. We will find out in the spring. Bali is doing fine now, dead upright and very slender ( but again a funny quack ) maybe its there nottinghamshire accent.?!? :eyelashes: We think Kroshka still thinks her great great great (etc) grand dad was a T-Rex, she is a cutey tho, bold upright with very pretty markings, she's always checking down ur neck, wellies n sleeves for worms, no fear. A trout with nowt taken out!.... Vassilly turned out to be a girl with a boys name and Bigyin is still a wee poove ( timid girl she is... )

They collectively chased a friends Collie today  :roflanim:. Just image 5 runner ducks in attack formation ( Kroshka leading the assault ) ... the dog ran off double quick with her tail between her legs. :roflanim:
