I was at a horse sale and tack auction at weekend.  Go for the cheap carrots,but walk through the horses for sale to have a a look at the tack sale.
A large man was shouting at passers by to come and buy his pony .......and he was sitting on a kids pony no more than 11.2hh.  I hope someone DID  buy the pony if only to get it away from its inconsiderate owner.  Such a shame the pony did not buck, and chuck him off into the nearby much heap
I have seen the RSPCA and also the Police there some weeks - but never seem to be there on occasions like this.  And even if you report matters to the sales office, nothing ever changes.

RSPCA too busy spending £300,000+ on a fox hunting prosecution. Glad they're not a Scottish organisation.

Poor pony, I suppose there is a lot of cruelty that goes on and is never reported...hope the pony has a nice owner now.

Hear hear. At our old place the lack of response from the RSPCA to horrendous abuse was staggering in its absence Im talking horses dragged along behind speeding Transit vans, ponies dead in the roads, that sort of thing, not minor stuff.
 Think of how many animals could have been saved and cared for for £300k.

Trouble is some idiot probably did buy  the pony to "rescue" it whether they wanted it or could care for it properly or not thus encouraging it to be done again (Quickest way of getting a silly price for your goat in market used to be to get a Jamacan/Pakistahni to walk up and feel along its back,or for horses get the meat man to bid on it )

Prices are so cheap, that yes, probably people with no experience, and nowhere to keep a pony are buying them.  Donkeys were going for £25 last week.
My uncle (a farmer) was at the livestock market, and saw a man with a goat on a lead.  He was taking it home on the train he said.  My Uncle asked if he was able to milk a goat, and his reply was, it would be his wifes job, and she would have to learn quickly,  Poor goat.
