russian doll type eggs
« on: November 07, 2012, 09:52:32 am »
One of my hens laid this egg yesterday, and i brought it to the office to eat this morning. I was ruuning a book to see if it was a triple yolker - but i didn't expect this?

The other egg contained a perfectly formed egg.

Does anyone know why this would happen or experienced the same?

We've had one only, in 5 years. Can't understand how it happens as the inner egg would need to move backwards up the oviduct then downwards again picking up a white, membrane and shell before exiting.

Only ever seen it in a photo before, never experienced it myself. It's very strange, I'd love to know how it happens

Wow.

None in 25 years of chicken keeping and my father has kept poultry all his life and never seen one.

I wonder how rare that is?

Ooooh!  How exciting and special  :chook:
Nice that you took it into your work so other folk got to see it too.
Keep that photo safe  :)
