Today we are waiting for the mass migration south - and no - not headhunters, bankers or teachers on half term. Cranes - thousands of them fly south thru a 20km corridor in the Limousin. We happen to be underneath it. Yesterday we heard and saw 3 lost soles and the cold in the north will now drive them south. A single skein can stretch across the entire sky and it takes them an age to cross. If we are lucky they will circle over the lake and wait for straglers to catch up. Camera is at the ready ! The first flight should be with us at about 5 ( oops 6) O clock.

Cranes . WOW . We get migrations of Bullfinches and Waxwings in the garden, they are stunning enough but cranes, lovely.

i see 100s of geese they cover the field and take all the sheep chickin feed fantastic to watch .

I was lucky enough to see a swan flight the other day - their teatime one.  I had the dogs at Gartmorn Dam SSSI  where the adjacent farmer has set up three secure deer fenced tree planted areas for walkers (and particularly dogs so they don't bother the wildlife I'd have thought.)., Walked up the hill to the top of the field and heard the most terrific noise of calling and wings.  Turned round to see a magnificent sight.  Even the dogs were looking in the air fascinated.  Didn't last long and they all floated serenely and elegantly back down to the water.  Wish I'd had the presence of mind and not so mesmerised as to take out the phone to film it!

To see a flight of cranes would be so wonderful.  Apparently there are some in Norfolk but they have been introduced since I moved away, so I never saw them.

All we got is geese arriving, anything that needed to leave left here ages ago!
Which doesn't suprise meet...wet, muddy and cold Aberdeenshire...bring on spring!

Sorry folks - not here yet. It was a loveley bright  day too - sunshine and blue sky. They do fly over at night but then there are so many that I'm sure we will get a photo when they do come.

A friend of mine in France videoed cranes flying overhead.  The noise they made was amazing.
