Hi from cold drizzly north Cumbria

My usual suggest to wannabes is to look up the WWOOF hosts in your area - there are many very good ones in Essex, I know - and get your hands dirty, make some good contacts, learn loads and have a lot of fun  :)

It isn't for everyone, but be warned - I WWOOFed and it changed my life!  ;D
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Hello from a foggy and damp Somerset  . I agree about joining WWOOF. It gave me the confidence to start my own smallholding and you can't beat the practical experience that it gives you.
