never heard of it we just called our local DEFRA office and they gave us the number of the collector who covers our area under the fallen stock scheme, don't think you have to be a member.

we are not memebrs main reason we use the local hunt that offer a first class service we have been with them since i was knee high so doubt we will change whilst the hunt is still going.
we can still learn if we are willing to listen.

I think it's only worth joining if you plan to have quite a number of dead animals. You don't have to be a member but you'll have to pay every time they take a carcass. We're quite near to our local place so deliver to them as it saves waiting around. If you do go to such a place though beware of the smell it's not something you'll forget in a hurry.

Im a member, am registered for cattle sheep and horses (tho I dont have cattle atm).
I like it because they just come and collect, the small charge is direct debited so I do not have to be around to watch - which I prefer.
I would prefer my old horse to go to the hunt (he was a hunter and loved it) but there arent any up here and I wanted to have a backstop in place as he is now an oldie, I dont want to be dealing with admin when the time comes, I will be in pieces.
I have found them very polite and courteous when I have happened to be here and have been happy with the service.

If you join the NFSCo it is free, but they do charge an admin fee when you are invoiced, and then dd.  However, they will give you a list of the collectors in your area, with the prices charged so that you know how much you are going to have to pay.

You only pay the admin fee if you want paper copies, we dont get charged anything except for £10+VAT joining fee the year we joined. We get emailed invoice etc and no fee  :relief: ;D

I'm keen on the collection idea as I don't have masses of time on my hands with a busy household etc etc. I would be dependent on someone else's help to get the loader on the tractor and place the carcass in the back of a trailer etc, then it is about an hour and a half round trip.    I think I will join....thanks for your replies :)

 Make sure you opt out of the paper invoicing - think you have to actively opt out rather than it being default so ask if they dont mention it...

Im a member. The hunt is cheaper, but its handy for busy times like lambing when id rather not take the tine out to nip up the kennels.
