pet therapy
« on: October 08, 2012, 03:33:28 pm »
hello all,
first of all what a fabulous site, I have been following posts for a wee while but haven't yet introduced myself although I did get advice from Rosemary at the Forfar Poultry sale recently and I recognised her without the bottle of bud!!!
I wouldn't describe myself as a smallholder but I became involved with pygmy goats and now have 14, for theraputic reasons, I work with children who are developmentally delayed or have behavioural issues and the difference the goats have made to their live has been immense. I started off with 6 goats and before i knew it was addicted and got some more. And some ducks and chickens. My hubby cut the field yesterday hopefully for the last time this year (the goats eat everything but the grass!).
I am now thinking about getting a few sheep, am not bothered about type as they would be lawnmowers but due due my work with the children they must be tame, they would have a forever home, and wouldnt be eaten
please keep me in mind if you need to rehome any pet sheep. I am in Arbroath NE Scotland
thankyou

Hello mojocafa and welcome

What fantastic work you do! I can imagine that the children must get so much from meeting your goats  :)  We keep goats for soapmaking (milk) and have some lawnmowing sheep that we've raised from 1 day so they are silly tame but are a long way from you. Have you considered bottle lambs next spring?

Hi from a bit further north!

Sounds very interesting the work you are doing... Would like to hear more about it! I've always been convinced that the world would be a better place if everybody could have a little "pet therapy". (In my case it's the cat...)

  and welcome from  :raining:  Shropshire.  Good luck with your venture.  I think bottle fed lambs would be ideal and the children could help feed them.
