You and my mum have a lot in common, Sally. I think of the time she made Scotch eggs for party. Seven eggs put on one side, then six hardboiled. When they were done, she carfully rolled them in flour then sausage meat, couldn't find the egg she's got out for dipping it in so got another one, dipped all the eggs and coated them in breadcrumbes then deep fried them. When she tried to cut them into quarters, she couldn't understand why one wasn't cooked properly. Then she realised it had shell in it. Yes, she's coated the raw egg in sausage meat and deep fried it.
I think my biggest cullinary mistake was when I made a cheese and onion pie, then an apple pie and used the same knife that I'd chopped the onion with to trim the pastry on both pies. Fine on the c & o pie but not the apple.

Or there was the time I put a bowl of bread dough to rise on the storage heater (the big, old-fashioned type) and it rose so much it went down the back. We had the smell of bread every time the heater came on, then the smell of toast, finally the smell of burnt toast.
I guess we've all done simlar things in the kitchen. Come of folks, own up.
