Small bale hay for sale
« on: September 18, 2012, 05:25:10 pm »
Farmer we got ours from still has some bales left.  Really nice meadow hay at £3.50 bale.   Well packed, good value for money.  High Peak, North Derbyshire/Cheshire border.

There's no market for hay at all round here in Hertfordshire.  An awful lot was produced, though it's not very good quality, so everyone has all they need and more.  We've never had so much in store.

As for straw my neighbour has a thousand big bales which he normally sends down to the South-West but nobody's buying.

Its really localised isnt it - some places its short, other places awash. The only common factor is that good stuff is hard to get this year in most places. If Roxy's contacts stuff is good then they wont have trouble selling it.

It does vary from area to area.  Due to the weather, hardly any hay or haylage got early on in the summer, and if it was cut,it was just the one, not two or three as usual.  Mainly big bales as well round here.  As we are in sheep country, and hills, not many do hay at all.  All our fodder comes from further down country, adding to the cost.
Saw the farmer today, and he does still have some bales left, but he won't for long, as the horsey people will come for it :)
