I have been offered a regular supply of bread from a bakery, bread and buns only made, no pies etc.
I have two dry Kune sows, one gilt and eight weaners. How much bread to "proper" food should I feed them. They are on four acres of grass and get a bit of fruit and veg.
The bread is from a top class bakery(just flour, yeast) and the usual mix of white, wholemeal.

I've always avoided bakery waste for the Kunekunes Sylvia, because they are so prone to putting on weight and the way I look at it, bread and buns are the equivalent of junk food for us (they love it, but it's not that good for them  ;))
Because mine only get 1lb of hard food each per day (plus fruit & veg, grass/hay) I think the most I'd be tempted to replace would be about a quarter of the hard feed, not sure what the ratio is for bread to pig nuts  ??? Maybe 2 to 1 ? Just keep a close eye on them incase they start getting 'porky'  ;) I wouldn't feed it to the weaners though - keep them on their full ration of pig nuts - they need it for minerals etc to ensure good growth and health.
Hope that helps a wee bit ?

Agree with what Karen has said - I have given mine bread & buns over the winter - say up to the equivalent of 1/4 loaf each 3 times a week, when it's cold, but instead of the extra feed & of course the jam sandwiches come summer worming time

Thank you, that's about what I was thinking. They did have rosemary focaccia, brioche and three grain star loaves for their breakfast today though :yum:  as well as a box of over-ripe pears.
