Rare Breed Survival Trust and OSB's
« on: August 10, 2012, 11:18:29 am »
Pasting the following message received from the OSB society today - if you're a member of the RBST please USE your vote  (you don't need to attend the AGM, you can do it by post  ;))

As you are all aware the Oxford Sandy & Black Pigs were recognised by the Rare Breed Survival Trust last year.

This can only be a good thing for the breed as a whole.

It now seems there are a group within the RBST who are challenging this and are seeking to remove the OSB’s from their watch list.

There also appears to be a campaign to remove members of the RBST council who support the inclusion of the OSB’s and to replace them with others who are in favour of our expulsion. (I have all the names, but don't want to post them publicly - pm me if you want to know  ;))

If you are a member of the RBST you are entitled to attend their AGM on Tuesday 21st August at midday in the Jersey Pavilion Stoneleigh Warks.

You can also vote for who you think should be on their council by 17th August.

We urge all of you who belong to the RBST to attend the AGM if you can but more importantly to place your votes for your preferred council members by 17th August.

What are their arguments for removing them? If they are a native breed and they are rare, I don't see what can be held against them?

Not a member of RBST either, used to be but banged my membership on the head when i got made redundant and have never renewed it.
Can't understand their gripe against OSB's just checked the criteria and as far as i can see OSB numbers meet it, i thought the GOS might get kicked off it as they now number nearer 1500 though 800 are in one herd, vaguely remember there being some whoha about OSB's not being a pure native breed but a generated one albeit over a hundred years ago. Obviously somebody in the RSBT has taken against them and wants them out, there'll be some tawdry squabble  ::) behind this no doubt.
Keep us posted HH
