Duck with a bad foot
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:16:27 pm »
I have an Aylesbury duck approx 7weeks old now. It has always been a bit of a waddler but has suddenly started having a problem with walking on one foot. It can stand but when it goes to walk it has trouble. It seems to have a rather largish lump under that foot. Any ideas?

It sounds like bumblefoot to me or just a birth deformity.

Mine have never had it, but i think if it is bumblefoot it needs to be lanced by a vet.

Hopefully this will bump the post so that someone more experienced will reply.

Best of luck

Yes, sounds like bumble foot, which is a deep abscess causing the lump.

If you're feeling brave you can lance it, wash it out with salt water and then squirt antibiotic foot spray for sheep into the hole, I tend to inject pen and strep into the foot too.

Then again, you could take it to the vet and get them to do it.

I had a feeling it might be something like that.
Thanks both.
