If you want to quote someone else's post, but it's in a different topic / thread, here are two ways of doing it.
Method 1 - using URLThis method puts a web address link into your post, which readers will click on to be taken to the post you are referring to.
- Open up the thread where the post is you want to quote. Find the post you want to quote.
- Click on the subject line of that post (usually Re: <topic title>) so that that post is at the top of the screen.
- Now go up to your browser address bar and copy the web address into your paste buffer.
- Now go to the thread where you want to quote this post and start your Reply
- In the Reply, where you want the link to the other post, press the 'Insert Hyperlink' icon (looks like the Earth with a piece of paper in the corner) and then paste the contents of your paste buffer between the 'url' tags
Method 2 - using message quoting This method puts the contents of the post you are quoting into your post in the current thread, just as it would if you quoted a post in the same thread, but if readers click on the 'Quote by' line it will take them through to the other thread. (You probably have to try it and see how it works

)
- Open up the thread where the post is you want to quote. Find the post you want to quote.
- Click on Quote in the top righthand corner, as though you were going to post a reply to it in that thread.
- In the Reply box that's been created for you, select and copy all the text that is there
- Now go to the thread where you want to quote this post and start your Reply
- Paste the contents of your paste buffer into the reply box
Remember to press Preview to check what you have done, and that it works, before pressing Post!
Note: quoting someone else's post in the
same thread / topic is much simpler; the tip for doing that is here:
