Hello from Moray
« on: June 09, 2012, 10:55:29 am »
Hi to everyone.

We have a small farm in the hills of Moray - on a clear day we can see the Moray Firth.

We keep a small herd of Shetland cattle, having 16 animals at present. We have 6 cows, 3 bulling heifers, 2 steers and 5 calves that were born this year. We've kept cattle since 2008, starting with 4 bulling heifers and the herd has grown slowly since then, courtesy of a couple of visiting bulls.

We also keep a few chickens and a couple of ducks, and we have 2 'guard' geese.
Sometimes we feel the urge to get some sheep, but so far we've managed to curb those thoughts and stick with the coos.

I've been lurking for a short while, and enjoyed reading the fora; I thought it was about time I joined in.

Just for info, in case anyone wonders, Blackmyre is my OH.

Hello, Factotum - ignore the question I asked under the "George" thread  ;D

Welcome - hopefully we'll get to meet up sometime soon! Will you be coming to the Scottish Smallholder and Grower Festival on 30th September? (Not that I'll have time for socialising  :innocent: )

Oh, and welcome!

Hi Rosemary,
Not sure, depends if OH fancies an away day - though we have to be back to shut away the chooks.

You're always welcome to come & see the herd and have a blether if you're up this way - just let us know if you are passing by.

We're hoping to have Shetlands there along with the SCBA stand. Dexters are coming, so we'll be up against it in the cattle popularity stakes  ;D

Thanks for all the welcome messages.

Avoiding the midges at the moment, though dare I say it, perhaps it's too cold for them and they'll stay away - might upset the swallows & martins...

Just been down to the village to put up the bunting - we have a week long festival starting the last week of June and ending with our Gala on July 1st. Tomorrow our school is running a pretend Olympic torch through the village & we thought it would be nice for them to have the bunting up.

Really love living in our village - we've got to know lots of folk since we moved here 6 years ago - joining in the events at the village hall helped, as did volunteering to be on the hall committee. It's a great community here.
