Out of 4 peafowl eggs, I had one successufl hatcher, Kevin. He's only a day old now, and sounds pretty lonely.

Any ideas / tips to help stave this off? He has a toy in with him, but only really stops cheeping when he can see me/ people from his safe broody box. Problem with that is, the dog wants to play with him too... :-\

Or is it like a puppy and just gets used to being alone eventually (granted, a  puppy gets way more attention I think)
Failing that, anyone got a spare peachick I can buy in the Dorset / Hampshire area that I can put with him?

It wouldn't have to be a peachick, any chick would save it from being lonely!

I'm in Bournemouth, well, near Hurn Airport. Happy to travel pretty much anywhere on a saturday to collect...

A couple of turkey chicks would do. They would encourage him to peck and keep him company.

My lonely guinea-fowl chick also peeped pitifully all day and night until we got him 3 large fowl chicks for company. That was 4 weeks ago and he hasn't looked back.

Yes, get him/her some friends, chicken chicks probably most likely and suitable.

Hiya,

Unfortunately we lost two of our own pea-chicks this week, so I can't help you on that score.

However, I'll second sylvia's suggestion of some day old turkey chicks to keep him company - should be easy enough to source at this time of year?
