Apologies for the graphic picture but here's an Araucana double yoker that has just hatched the smaller one on the left hasn't absorbed its yolk but pipped it self out it may or not live the other bigger one is unfortunately dead.

I have never had a double yoker hatch and thought although possible was probably nearly impossible, that said i have thrown the odd double yoker in over the years with no success, i explained this to the BH but said i would throw it in and we would see. It was viable. Not entirely happy with the outcome but interesting all the same - any one else had a double yoker hatch and survive?

Not sure i think its just the formation of the shell around 2 yolks internally rather than anything genetic
The chicks seemed separate although the chick that hatched had the yolk sack outside the body

Thanks i have just left it in the incubator just now to see if hopefully it absorbs it up - we will see

we exchanged theories on here some time ago what would happen if...glad you can confirm that I was right when I said "twins" and laughed at at the time  Great stuff and wow!

Interesting. My daughter is fascinated with the idea of hatching a double yolker and the idea of twins. Never put one in because read that they never survived. Is it that they cant reach correct size? Share something vital?

I know someone on another forum hatched quail 'twins' so I assume it must be possible with poultry.

Wow Quail twins!!!! They are so tiny anyway. Ive just hatched another lot and especially after the ducklings they are so weee.

Bentk - they hatched on time, was really perplexed when i first candled it!
In the hills - the dead one was the correct size  but appeared to be trapped at the back of the other one which was considerably smaller than usual  - they seemed separate
