We have the most bizarre situation this evening. One of our mums went missing we assume during the night, leaving her brood of five who are only five days old, all alone. The chicks have been mixing with the other chicks during the day, but now dusk is upon us, the other chicks are gathering under mums and this little clutch are snuggled nicely underneath a Banty Cockerel. He is loving it and sitting there all fluffed up and cooing to them. Has anyone heard of this before? - it is new to us.
I will try to get a pic if I can. Typically the camera is not downloading properly today after I took a load of photos this morning.
In addition to that actually, it is quite amazing altogether here. We have four mums with their young and I bought an additional twenty day olds at the LACEF Easter event a couple of weeks ago. These were destined for the intensive indoor elevage. Four of those chicks were donated to our Silkie who just didn't hatch anything out despite trying.
Here we are two weeks on and come evening time she must have most of those chicks underneath her. She actually sits on top of them, they lift her legs off of the ground. We have a sea of little bodies rushing around the garden it is fantastic. I get my morning callers - about six of them come into the kitchen to remind me it is breakfast time. In all I think we have around fifty chicks in the garden and amazingly they jump on the cats, walk under the dogs - no fear and they all get on.
Walt Disney?? Who is Walt Disney?? Just come to Normandy we have it all here!
