Are you English Bionic? In our experience that can be a barrier to getting good tradesmen.  Nowadays if we are asking for local recommendations our next question is always ... "and do they do work for English people?"

We got the impression when we were viewing property in Carmarthenshire that the attitude to English people was a lot worse there than it is here.......and it's not that great here!!

Suziequeue,
Yes I am English but my OH is Welsh although you wouldn't know it from his accent.

Welsh does seem to be widely spoken here (OH can't speak Welsh) but everyone we have come across so far has been really nice and helpful.  Long may it continue.

I think it is very localised.  In this immediate area people are truly welcoming but I have heard of someone born and bred in this area who was treated with hostility by a family further east simply because he could not speak Welsh as he came from "Little England".
