Liz the trimming of extra nipples is no myth
when i was young and there was a lot more local shows there was a dairy farmer had bought an expensive freisian bull but its offspring had six teats so he trimmed them with scissors to assist in showing  the whole lot of heifers were ruined as he had cut of two working teats :farmer:

Nothing surprises me in the showing world as there are always some people who HAVE to win! however i echo all said by Liz, showing is a great way to get your herd known and for you to learn more about your pigs and meet like minded people the majority of whom are extremely helpful and exceedingly good company. ;D
I will be out on my local circuit this year as i'm getting my back hopefully sorted at the end of April so should be fit for the start of our season mid july. I have two cracking gilts from our March litter who i will show in the January classes so although they'll be a bit younger and smaller we'll have a bash (they're only 3wks old at the mo but looking promising :)) Really look forward to the show season. More & more people are showing their pigs and its really good to see new faces, breeds & herds.
