Hi,
Is it safe to plant vegetables (for human use) on land previously used to keep pigs? Our large blacks have done a great job turning over a bit of field and we'd like to plant on it in about 6 weeks. The pigs had worms when we we first got them so I am worried about eggs still being present in the soil. The pigs were on the land for 4 months and were moved off yesterday. Does anyone know how long we should leave the area before we can start planting? Many thanks.

i dont know about worms except it takes 2 years to for them to completely die and to prevent re-infecting pigs. but im sure they are not an inter-species parasite?

with regards to planting, i guess if it is fresh unrested manured land, ud be better to start with hungry crops such as tatties. as crops like carrots need less manure to thrive.

We have just done the same, we moved the pigs off and left it for two weeks then rotovated it and left it for another two weeks and this coming weekend we will plant potatoes
