Hello.
This might be a daft question, but where else can you ask but TAS?
I need a different fluke/wormer for my sheep and I'm looking at Mebadown (or possibly Closamectin) but they both have closantel in them.
I'm sure it's fine, but I know someone who has a sheep that went blind after overdosing on closantel. It does state this as a possible bad side-effect, ..but how much is 'over-dosing?'  I can't imagine this man gave his sheep loads and loads of the stuff, and it's easy to double dose.
Just a bit nervous....
Am I being over cautious?

 What have you been using?
 Triclabendazole is effective against all stages of fluke. Closantel is not so good for the immature stages.
 
 It would appear that documented tests of Closantel showed acute toxicity, ie blindness, at 4x the recommended dose. But personally, I would make absolutely sure I wasn't exceeding 1and a half times, which means you need a fairly accurate knowledge of what your sheep weigh and adjust the dose accordingly.

Hi. I've been using Fasimec Duo S but I've used it 3 times now (May, Sept, Jan) and that has triclabendazole and ivermectin. But I was advised to switch to something with a different active ingredient this time (due to resistance)

 Yes, like you say, you need to change.
 If it were me I would use Closantel once a year and the Triclabendazole based one for your other 2 treatments.

Yes that's a good idea. Hadn't thought about doing it that way.
