Flu?
« on: February 24, 2012, 09:56:36 am »
Don't mean to moan but have not been this ill in years! Is it just flu?
Have had back to back colds since November- nothing new, am hypothyroid so immune system not the best.
Tuesday felt awfull but as usual if you can get out of bed you go to work, was oncall (luckilly didn't get called out!) had very high temp chills aching joints etc etc. Yesturday couple stop vomiting and really, really painfull all over- like a whole body migraine. Today completely wiped out, can't get out of bed with out falling over.

Hubby doesn't drive and animals are 30min drive away so very very very kind friend drove him over to do them, and is doing so again today, bless her! I owe her big time!

Question is, am I just grouchy cos I'm ill, or can I rightfully be cross at hubby for being 42 and still not driving even though I've paid for his provisional licence, some lessons and put him on my insurance so he can drive with me in the car, even if I can't drive? As I said it was the only way we could have he field cos we needed a plan if I was ill and couldn't drive.

Ok, blatant moan, just needed to vent!

First ring the doctors for a telephone consultation and tell him/her how you feel and how long its been going on and get yourself better. it does sound like flu but better safe than sorry especially with the vomiting.
Your kind friend is a friend indeed and  if she's happy to help out let her and make a big fuss of her when you're better with a suitable thank you present.(May be worth offering some petrol money in the meantime)
Hubby- hmm- why won't he drive? some past experience thats made him nervous, damn lazy or just obstinate in moving into the 21st century or even worse sensitive ::).  Kick and backside springs to mind, you've got him insured, paid for the lessons and licence, give him a good threatening push! Time he took a full role in this partnership.
Hope you don't find my comments too abrasive but i' a very practical forthright Yorkshire lady.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thank you! He can drive just fine, took his test several times many years ago and failed for little things like hesitation at a junction etc. He then gave up. It's the written test that bothers him as he's dyslexic (like me) so I said we would get him assessed and he could then maybe get a reader or scribe or more time etc?  I started taking him out driving last year but it fizzled out...
I've told him to either start driving or it's his responsibility to sort out a last minuet back up plan for if I'm ill, break a leg etc!

Am going to take mate out for nice meal, pay for fuel and a months worth of eggs to say thanks! She knows I'd do the same for her, and she did offer to help anytime ages ago- she loves the animals! She can't have her own dogs so often borrows ours if she fancies a dog walk!

The learning proccess slows down after the age of 24, most life skills are developed before that age so the learning of new skills take a lot longer, it might do him good to take an intensive course . Has he got as far as taking a driving test yet?  some people are not good at exams or tests and just go to pieces .
The winter vomiting virus is going the rounds at the moment , very nasty. and has closed a few hospital wards as it is highly contagious. Did you get your flu shot last Autumn ? and ask your GP about the pneumonia shot.
Hope things improve for you soon.

I am sure there is help on the test for people with learning difficulties it may be worth making enquiries, i'm too old to have taken it but believe its multi choice, worth making some enquiries, but make him do it.

Didn't get flu vax as permanently has nasty cold! Was going to get it when I was well. Pnumonia vax sound like a plan, will ask about it.

Think it's the exam thing he goes to pieces on. He took the test 4 times, the last time he passed it but hadn't signed the provisional licence so they failed him!!! He gave up after that!
