electric fence repairs
« on: February 19, 2012, 08:39:27 am »
anyone know if i can get my electric fence packs fixed, im talking bout the small blue ones that take chunky batteries (d).
one had a loose circuit and stopped working after a few weeks, and the other got dropped in the sludge overnight.
i think they were about £70 each to buy so dont want to spend a fortune on them.
thanks

Think the sludge one will be a write-off PP. But the loose circuit should be fixable by anyone with an interest in electronics. Try an ad in the local store to find someone retired and interested in helping. They will have the simple equipment necessary to test the circuits.

I don't suppose you're near me 'cos I know a bit about electronics and fixed my Rutland. I suppose you could post it to me, but I don't have a lot of time at the moment - depends how long you can manage without it/them.

I'm not so sure as Chris that the sludge one is a write off - depends how far the sludge has got (and what sort of sludge), and if you can open it up, clean the sludge out and leave it somewhere warm and dry for a night you might be OK. At the risk of stating the obvious, if you do open it up, make sure it was disconnected from it's power source for at least a few mins first to allow the capacitors to discharge.
