Lots of things  :D
All you need is a small propagator to start off some tomato plants and herbs on the window sill.
In the green house I usually start off with some onion seeds, garlic, leeks & brassicas this time of year and get my first seed potatoes to chit (forever hopeful they won't drown in the clay soil!)
Now's also a good time to plan what you're going to plant and look through seed catalogues, if that helps you to choose what you want to grow, even if you don't buy through them.
I also find it a good time of year to get out there and finish any tidying up jobs I didn't quite finish last year.
Hope that helps give you some ideas- enjoy your plot  ;)

It's the time of year for planting fruit outside, if you've got the space. We've just planted blackcurrants, raspberries and have the strawberries still to do. We'll be planting apple and pear trees at the end of the month.

I know they're not vegetables, but STS covered that.  :D

thanks guys.  I have herbs outside surviving the winter in a raised bed, rosemary, chives (that aren't doing well), sage, oregano and tarragon.  I have very old apple tree's and redcurrants that seem to survive every year even though the chickens eat thm all! we're got a hedge thats been plaanted with sloes, damsons, and hazel that i'm yet to get  nut from.  We've also got a few fb cherry trees.  I'd like to do some strawberries - do you grow them from seed now?  we've got lots of blackberries growing wild here too that i make jam out of.  I'm still earning my green fingers, last year was my firt proper successful year of growing anything!

You may still be able to plant some garlic and shallots  - worth a try.  We are a lot further south but way inland. I have no plans to start anything yet as we usually have had lots of snow by now Jan and Feb. We too have had just one frost so I have let the chickens onto the veg plots so that they clear any grubs they find before the late winter arrives ( probable rather than possible me thinks). I did some digging and muck spreading 2 days ago and had to shed the jumper and work in a T shirt. Crazy weather!

The chives will be dormant over the winter but will reappear beautifully fresh and edible in the spring.

For strawberries, you can grow them from seed but you can also buy them as runners, either to crop next year or there are some expensive ones which will crop straight away.
