Exporting Pedigree Pigs
« on: January 12, 2012, 12:59:17 pm »
Have any of you guys any experience of exporting pigs to the E.U?

I've had a couple of enquiries of the last week or so regarding selling pedigree Tamworths to people in Holland. One guy said that he thought all was required was a movement license and a certificate from the vet saying the weaners were healthy, but that seems a little simple to me.

Just waiting for my vet to give me a ring back and thought I would try your brains before ringing DEFRA ::)

It is pretty straightforward. The main problem is whoever transports them will have to log a route plan with the authorites and stick to it. Also do check that the ferry company allows livestock - some don't. If you contact BPA they should be able to provide more detail on the veterinary checks.

Hi

I live in France and have imported Pedigree Berkshires and OSBs recently.

It is pretty straightforward. Suggest you contact these people [email protected] - they are extremely helpful. You will need to fill in a EXA31 and here is a link to the support documents http://www.archive.defra.gov.uk/foodfarm/animaltrade/traces/pigdocs.htm.DEFRA need at least 10 days to process the appllication and provide the necessary paperwork to the nominated vet.

It is also wise to suggest to your clients that they should be in touch with their State veterinary authorities to insure that they comply with their own countries requirements as well as the UK.

Good luck
