Hello from Aberdeenshire
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:59:02 pm »
We are looking forward to moving to our new croft near Methlick in Aberdeenshire.  Given the time of year I think that getting some proper heating into the house will be the first priority!

But after that we will be turning our efforts to three acres of neglected land and barns.  We plan chickens for meat and eggs, veg and some fruit.  All of which I have tried before on a smaller scale back in Norfolk.  I’m also considering a couple of pigs to help clear the land and possibly a lamb or two when we have some grass worth eating.

The forum and site looks very interesting and informative, I sure will be very helpful when we finally stop packing and arrive in the new place.

Welcome to the forum, Angus (that's a good name for Aberdeenshire  ;D)   We're a nosey lot so we'll look froward to hearing all about the move and how things go.  And yes, i would agree that heating is the first priority.  It's getting real cold down here in Central Scotland and my sister in Inverness says they have had quite a bit of snow. ::)

Hello from me in South Lanarkshire
I used to stay just outside Methlick (Fyvie side) in a house with a couple of acres, before moving back down home.
Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Hi Angus!

Your plans sound great!! We are over near Aboyne/Ballater way. We have Shetland sheep and some geese/chickens and horses. If you want to learn more about the sheep side you are welcome to come and meet Curly the ram and his girls.

When you are thinking of the pigs, Stonehead is a good person to consider, he keeps pedigree Berkshires up near Insch, have had one of the pigs to eat and it was fantastic!

Hi there, and welcome, I live just across the hill from you, so maybe we could meet up sometime.  I'm sure you're far too busy to socialise just now, but when you have time it would be great to meet.
We keep Ryelands, Southdowns, Oxford Downs, Herdwicks, Soay, Lleyn, an Exmoor pony and Shetland geese.  Find us on Twitter as @RareBreedsScot

Hello, and welcome from a very blustery Kinlochbervie!

We get across to your side of the country from time to time as our eldest daughter is at Aberdeen university.

Definitely go for the pigs, btw :)
