We hand broadcast some forage rape seed this year in an area we are trying to reclaim and it worked fairly well but we need to think about the management of this area for next year. 20 very sloping acres running down to the river that had been badly neglected for years. This winter we are cutting back bramble at every opportunity. We are grazing heavily and including ponies in the mix of grazing animals but without using Asulox (and with the river at the bottom we are trying hard not to) we know the bracken will be back.
Forage rape can be sown in May but chicory starts in April and there are some grass mixes I have found that include chicory. I want as much competition for the bracken as I can find. Anyone any experience of chicory they could share please?
