Good day out.
« on: September 18, 2011, 08:18:00 am »
We had a lovely day out yesterday at The Midland Game Fair at Weston Park near Telford , thousand of like minded people keeping the traditional country lifestyle alive for the future generations. and not a single bunnyhugger to spoil the day.
There was even a stall for sausage makers selling everything you need to turn a pig into food, I came away with a bag of casings for my blackpuddings..
It's on again today if you are in the area , well worth a visit.

I have been going to the midlands for some years now, get on the camp site fri morning stay till sun afternoon  meet up with some good mates.Cant beat sitting round the fire,a few beers talking with like minded folk.BUT it is losing its shine, fewer and fewer trade stand some piss poor demonstrations with no entertainment factor at all.If it wasnt for re conecting ties with my brother (1st time he has been) i would not have gone, infact this year is my last time at weston park.£65 for the camping, 2x £27 for  weekend passes,£10 for my brother to park his car on the camp site.3-4 years ago it would have taken the sat and sun to get round everything properley, last year i pulled off the camp site at around 4pm,this year i spent a total of 2 hours on the game fair field today. On a more positive note anyone going for the 1st time its great, just dont expect to find many good deals or bargains,oh and take your own food and drink.

i think you will find most shows/game fairs are really pricing themselves out of the majority's reach :(

It's the age old story, everyone has to have a slice of the pie, The national trust for the venue, the event organisers, the police for walking about doing bugger all, the carpark people, and the growing cost of third party insurance  then the new government tax on events, no wonder a lot of the small country shows have gone to the wall.  I saw a bloke buy 2 ice creams for his kids and he stood there looking at £2  change from a tenner...........We took our own food .

I haven't had the time to get to any game/country fairs this year and really do miss them - but they are definitely overpriced these days.

I had a really good day yesterday at Darlington dog show where Belle got Best Bitch in Brittanys  :dog: :trophy: and Allez got Reserve best dog! :dog:  :trophy:

Allez now has three Reserve Challenge Certifciates and Belle has her first Challenge Certificate.  We flew home!!! ;D ;D ;D

I think maybe I should have one last litter from them (and plenty of people told me that yesterday!)- 2 enquiries so far, and she could have half a dozen, so if anyone has a shooting or falconry friend who wants a very well bred, health tested (low hip scored) Brittany pup early next year, point them in my direction!  ;D
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
